Introduction

China Telecom subscriptions fell in 2Q14, mainly due to increased market competiton with the launch of LTE services and strong marketing by China Mobile. Following the launch of its 4G service in 1H15 the company has seen a steady growth in mobile subscriptions.

Highlights

  • In early August 2015, China Telecom, the first among the three Chinese operators to do so, officially launched an LTE-Advanced service, dubbed “Tianyi 4G+,” in 17 cities across China, including Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Hangzhou. The service combines 20MHz each in FDD bands 1.8GHz and 2.1GHz to achieve a peak download speed of 300Mbps.
  • At end-1H15, China Telecom had 54 million FTTH subscribers, accounting for 60% of the country’s total FTTH base of about 90 million, as reported by the regulator MIIT.
