Introduction

Total communications provider (CP) revenues declined in 3Q15, as capex flattened. Telco capex was $81bn in 3Q15, or $335bn on an annualized basis (down 2% YoY). More spending by OTT and infrastructure providers is helping to offset telco declines.

Highlights

  • Global CSP revenues were down 6% YoY in 3Q15. North America and Africa were the only regions to see positive YoY growth. North America growth weakened, though, and India-dominated Central & Southern Asia reverted to negative growth due to currency swings.
  • Global capex share: China, Japan, and the US, each with its own set of vendors, claim 45%. Germany, Australia, France, Canada, the UK, and Brazil each have 3% share, followed by five countries with about 2% and Spain adding 1%. These top 15 countries account for nearly 75% of global capex.
  • Of the top 25 network builders, 19 are telcos and six are ICPs from the OTT world, led by Google and Apple.
