Introduction

Global optical networking (ON) revenues for 2Q15 were $3.9bn, up nearly 25% from 1Q15 and 2.3% higher than 2Q14. Annualized global ON spending grew 0.6% sequentially in 2Q15 but declined 0.3% versus 2Q14 to $14.2bn.

Highlights

  • The global market increased versus the prior year for the third consecutive quarter and annualized spending grew 0.6%, surpassing $14.2bn. Early data for 2Q15 indicates global telco capex growth in 2Q15 of -5%. Optical is outperforming capex for two reasons: one, 100G upgrades are boosting spend; and two, new buyers of optical gear are emerging beyond the telco segment, particularly for data center interconnect (DCI).
  • Huawei maintained its market leadership, but Alcatel-Lucent, Ciena, FiberHome, and Infinera gained share in the quarter; Cisco, Coriant, Fujitsu, Huawei and ZTE lost share.
