Spotify has reached a deal with the National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA) whereby major and independent music publishers can claim royalties for the use of music by the service in the US if ownership information was previously unknown.


  • Spotify has agreed to create a $30m pool to cover unmatched royalty payments, and the NMPA is advising its members to opt in to the deal. However, some rights holders are expected to continue down the legal route to fully resolve the problem of streaming services and unmatched music.
