This is an update of Malaysia’s telecoms market, covering fixed broadband and mobile market trends and regulation. It includes service provider performance, multiplay services and bundling, MVNOs, and a TV/OTT video market outlook.

Highlights

  • Mobile market revenue grew slightly in 2018, with 0.96% growth over 2017. Although not a significant rate of growth, this reverses the negative growth experienced in recent years. Mobile subscriptions also grew, by 1.62%, and by early 2018 4G had already become the largest technology. Mobile ARPU fell 3% due to price competition among operators.
  • The broadband market enjoyed a healthy 3.35% growth in subscriptions during 2018. FTTH/B is the dominant technology in Malaysia's fixed broadband market.
