The AppConfig community was formally announced in early 2016. The community provides tools and best practices with the goal of standardizing the approach to configuring and managing mobile apps, essentially making it easier for organizations to mature an enterprise mobility approach. Appdome, a vendor that provides a no-code mobile app integration platform, announced that it will join the community.

A partnership that will help enterprises and ISVs simplify mobile app development and deployment

The AppConfig community and set of best practices were created to help make it easier for app developers to create, deploy, and manage mobile enterprise apps. Historically, when creating mobile apps, developers had to use proprietary app wrapping and SDKs to develop and manage these apps via their adopted EMM solution. This resulted in many issues and frictions, including the need to develop a separate app for use across different EMM solutions. The AppConfig standard promotes a consistent set of mobile app configurations and security features based on OS-native standards that can be leveraged by enterprise app developers and independent software vendors (ISVs) to simplify and streamline app development and management.

AppConfig has continued to gather support since its launch in early 2016, and Appdome has now announced it is the latest vendor to formally support the standard and community. Appdome for AppConfig will support app developers with single-click implementation of AppConfig-compliant features and standards, including features such as predefined app configurations, app tunneling capabilities, single sign-on, and security policies. These features will no longer need to be manually implemented and maintained – developers can easily configure them in a codeless fashion for deployment and management via an MDM tool.
