Huawei is combining packet, optical, and SDN control to deliver a cloud-centric programmable network. During Huawei's Analyst Summit in April 2017, the company outlined its cloud-centric plan to support 5G applications and video services.


  • Huawei’s innovative OXC offers CSPs and ICPs a way to make the network more programmable and more optical. The OXC shows technological promise, especially with an all-optical backplane.
  • CSPs need visibility into the IP and optical layers to deliver bandwidth in the most efficient manner. Huawei’s metro solutions provide 50GE/PAM4, a network-slicing system (FlexEthernet and virtual system), an SDN controller, segment routing (SR), and VXLAN to meet the various requirements of 5G services.
