Summary

As part of the deal for Clearlake Capital Group to acquire LANDesk in late 2016, Heat Software and LANDesk have merged under a new company name and branding: Ivanti Software. The deal sees two established vendors that have operated in multiple enterprise technology spaces come together in a bid to accelerate unified systems management, service management, and security management capabilities.

Supporting organizational efforts around digital transformation is a key strategic objective for Ivanti

The merger of Heat Software and LANDesk brings together an established set of technology capabilities that extends across service management, systems management, and security. It also brings together a strong contingent of expertise and resources with a broad geographical reach. Supporting organizations in their digital transformation efforts with solutions that can be deployed quickly and efficiently will be central to the vision defined by Ivanti. The service management, security, and unified endpoint management offerings from the new company represent important areas of investment for organizations looking to deliver against digital business objectives. Rationalizing the product set and developing messaging in line with the new vision represents the biggest and most immediate challenge for the new company.

IT service management (ITSM) represents a key area of opportunity for the new company. Both LANDesk and Heat Software have been established players in the ITSM space for some time and ITSM is an area undergoing an interesting and exciting evolution. Customer demands relating to service management solutions are evolving, specifically around how service management technologies can be used to support digital transformation efforts and deliver value beyond only the IT department. As the broader applicability of service management solutions to other business functions becomes better understood, the need for ITSM vendors such as Ivanti to evolve and improve the capabilities offered by their solutions in line with this need increases. ITSM technologies and practices will also be valuable in helping organizations securely manage and derive intelligent insight from a more comprehensive estate of connected ‘things’.
