Cisco has enhanced its UC services and solutions based on development work it has been doing with Apple over the past year. The result will be a superior communications experience for business users with iPhones and iPads, but little to no improvements for employees with Android and other mobile devices.


  • Based on its work with Apple, Cisco has created a "fast lane" for applications running on iOS devices connected to Cisco-based corporate Wi-Fi networks. It has also created a more intuitive calling experience for VoIP calls placed by iOS devices using its Spark app.
  • Microsoft and Vonage have used the same Apple APIs as Cisco used to enhance their mobile UC clients on iOS devices.
  • Service providers offering hosted UC services based on Cisco's Hosted Collaboration Solution will eventually be able to deliver native calling for users with iOS devices, but not until Cisco enhances HCS in the same way it has already enhanced Spark.
