  • Ethiopia, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia had a combined total of 6.54 million TV households by the end of 2017. Pay-TV households were 2.44 million, accounting for 37% of the total.
  • East African markets scores high among other markets on the continent on digital switchover having completed the migration. The region is now focusing on increasing DTH signal coverage to complement DTT signal infrastructure and fill coverage gaps, as well as promoting the development of relevant digital content to broadband on the DTT platforms.
  • Ovum forecasts that Ethiopia, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia will have a combined total of 9.72 million TV households by the end of 2022, which will include 3.17 million pay-TV households, 33% of the total.
