An update on the UK telecoms market, covering mobile, fixed broadband, TV, OTT video, operator initiatives, M&A, and regulation. It includes subscription, revenue, and technology forecasts for these services.


  • The UK telecoms sector is one of the largest and most mature markets in Europe. Mobile subscription count is forecast to grow around 6.1% between end-2019 and end-2024; fixed broadband is forecast to grow 11.2% and pay TV to decline 5.3%. OTT video subscriptions are expected to amount to around 36 million by 2024.
  • O2 is the latest operator to launch 5G services in October 2019. EE and Vodafone launched their 5G networks in May and July this year respectively. In August 2019, Three UK launched a limited service in London, targeting homes. Three's full 5G mobile service is expected to be launched before the end of 2019.
  • In the fixed broadband segment, xDSL is expected to remain the dominant technology over the five-year forecast period. The government's full-fiber target is to cover 15 million homes by 2025 and to provide coverage across the country by 2033.
