Trend Micro has announced the $300m acquisition of HP’s TippingPoint security business, bringing it a network intrusion detection/prevention system (IDS/IPS) product line and for the first time taking it into the world of dedicated hardware appliances.


  • In the short term, Trend will be working on a joint roadmap with projects such as the integration of the TippingPoint IPS and its own Deep Discovery platforms. This will also give it time to learn more about the dedicated hardware business, which Ovum sees as a sensible move.
