Telcos are in the unenviable position of having to cut costs while experiencing slowing growth in revenues from their core services of messaging and voice. At the same time, telcos must position themselves to deliver new revenue-generating services to remain relevant as communications service providers.

In order to facilitate cost savings alongside agile service development in the messaging market, telcos need to migrate from their legacy, silo-based, inflexible messaging architectures to new-generation, multipurpose, flexible and scalable platforms and delivery models. Network functions virtualization (NFV) can help telcos achieve this migration.

In this webinar, Ovum and Openmind covered the following topics:

  •  How the decline in P2P SMS is pressuring telcos’ revenues and cost base
  • The onus on telcos to innovate communications services
  • Using NFV to make messaging more efficient
  • New market opportunities enabled by NFV
