Asia’s growing GDP and digital connectedness make it an appealing target for cybercriminals. The region’s cyberdefense is remarkably poor and we look at what enterprises must do to improve this.


  • The Asian Development Bank reported last year that Asia-Pacific generated two-fifths of global GDP (in 2011 purchasing power parity terms) in 2015 – see Figure 1. With close to 2 billion users in the region connected to the World Wide Web via a PC, and many more on their mobile phones, this makes for a tantalizing stew of new targets, both for cybercriminals and for state-sponsored threat actors.
