Summary

At OFC 2015, Fujitsu Optical Components Limited (FOC), a leading metro, long-haul, and data center supplier headquartered in Kawasaki, Japan, displayed its strength at delivering the most challenging 100G products. Its announcements include an analog coherent CFP2 (CFP2-ACO) module, a micro integrated coherent receiver (ICR) for 100/200G, and a CFP4 ER4 transceiver demonstration.

Fujitsu Optical Components shows strength in integration

Fujitsu Optical Components is a uniquely strong supplier at integrating optics with electronics to deliver differentiated performance. The three products it showcased at OFC 2015 continued that tradition. These represent some of the most challenging products, due to their small size requirements and low power consumption, while still meeting a high optical performance standard. Photonic and electrical integration are key requirements to successfully develop these.

FOC announced a CFP2-ACO that it expects to release to production in 3Q15. It touts in-house development of the devices that make up the module. This includes a compact semiconductor modulator and an ultra-compact integrated coherent receiver. The module supports 100G DP-QPSK and 200G 16QAM. This product, which targets the metro market, has the potential to feed nicely into the recently announced Verizon build.

Fujitsu also introduced an ultra-compact integrated receiver for use at 100 and 200G. This product is highly integrated as it includes a number of passive optical functions.

Fujitsu continues its leadership position in 40km reach for pluggable transceivers. It demonstrated a CFP4 transceiver that supports 40km. It is one of the few vendors that have such a solution. It cites using highly sensitive photodiodes and low noise transimpedance amplifiers in the transceiver. Forward error correction (FEC) is not needed, helping to support the low power consumption and making it backward compatible with the previous generation 100G 40km solutions that work without FEC.

Fujitsu continues to deliver market-leading solutions at 100G and beyond, putting itself in a good position to grow faster than the total market.
