Introduction

Operating revenue for 9M to end-2015 grew to JPY3,383bn ($31.0bn), up 1.7% YoY despite the negative impact from the increasing uptake of “monthly support” discount programs. LTE share reached 52.1% of total subs at end-2015 with DoCoMo's growing LTE-A and LTE BTS coverage.

Highlights

  • There were 31.6 million smartphone users on NTT DoCoMo’s network at end-4Q15, up 15.7% YoY. The operator has aggressively promoted its Xi LTE service with promotional discounts on LTE handsets and billing plans and has extended its smartphone lineup. LTE smartphone users constituted over 95% of total smartphone users.
  • Aggregate ARPU for telecoms business increased consistently over the last three quarters. DoCoMo redefined aggregate ARPU to include optical-fiber broadband.
  • The operator launched a wide collection of smartphone models to support DoCoMo’s Premium 4G LTE-A service and VoLTE international roaming. The new range of smartphones supports DoCoMo’s World Wing outbound roaming service launched in October.
