A detailed update of the Philippines TV market, encompassing free-to-air and pay TV across all TV technologies plus next-generation TV initiatives and OTT video. Includes TV ratings, revenue, market shares, programming, and advertising.

  • - The pay-TV market is dominated by DTH leader Cignal TV and cable-TV provider SkyCable. The rest of the market comprises small DTH players and a number of small provincial CATV players - SkyCable is readying itself to expand into the DTH segment. This development signals even tougher times for smaller DTH operators that are already operating with financial losses.
  • Philippines regulator, NTC, released implementation rules and regulations for DTT broadcast services in December 2014, bringing migration from analog TV DTT a step closer. It says the transition will take at least five years. Ovum believes it will face delays, and forecasts that 24% of TV households (4.4 million homes) will take DTT as their primary TV signal by 2020.
  • - The NTC and the TV operators still need to conduct an extensive information campaign to increase the public’s awareness of the mandatory digitization of TV broadcasting. - The anti-piracy body, IIPA, accepts that progress has been made, but piracy remains a key concern for operators.
