Introduction

This is an update of Ghana's TV market covering an overview of the market, pay-TV landscape, next generation TV & OTT, and DTT development. It includes TV subscriptions and revenue forecast for the period 2015–19.

Highlights

  • Ghana had 2.7 million TV households, a household penetration of 60%, by the end of 2014. The number of pay-TV households was low at 194,000, a mere 7% of the total TV households.
  • Ghana awarded an $82.6m DTT contract to K-NET, a Ghanaian-based technology firm, which is expected to deploy the DTT infrastructure in three phases over nine months. The government has extended the official digital migration deadline to March 2016.
  • Ovum projects that Ghana will have slightly more than 3.5 million TV households, a household penetration for TV of 70%, by the end of 2019, when 260,000 households will be taking pay TV, a household penetration of 7%, essentially unchanged from 2014.
