  • Ovum forecasts that Kenya will have 41 million mobile subscriptions by the end-2019. Mobile service revenue will total $2.6bn, with mobile data revenue surpassing $1bn and accounting for 38% of total mobile service revenue.
  • Safaricom became the first operator to launch an LTE-A network in the region, partnering with Nokia Networks to provide the network equipment as well as expert services including network planning, optimization, implementation, and integration.
  • Other service providers have undertaken to invest in network expansion to meet the rising demand for data services. In addition, there is increased focus on promoting smartphone acquisition by operators with the aim of boosting data consumption.
