This presentation offers an update of Ireland's telecoms market, covering mobile, fixed broadband, operator initiatives, M&A, and regulation. It includes subscription, revenue, and technology forecasts for mobile and fixed broadband.

  • Ireland’s telecoms market has suffered from poor broadband uptake and underinvestment by key operators in the past. Competition has intensified in the past three years as a result of the reorganization of the sector.
  • A joint venture between the Electricity Supply Board (ESB) and Vodafone was officially launched in May 2015. The new broadband company Siro is to invest €450m ($484m) in bringing high-speed fiber-optic broadband to 500,000 premises in 50 towns. The initial phase of the project is expected to be fully rolled out by the end of 2018.
  • In June 2015, Eir had invested over €310m ($333m) in its NGA fiber network, passing 1.3 million premises and connecting 281,000 retail and wholesale customers. Eir aims to extend this footprint to 1.9 million premises by 2020 (80% of premises in Ireland).
