Ovum survey reveals MNOs do not fully understand the changing technical requirements associated with the introduction of VoLTE and their commercial implications. This void creates a significant opportunity for international wholesalers to grow their roaming businesses.

  • Demand for VoLTE roaming is growing fast: 79% of respondents have launched or plan to launch domestic VoLTE within a year, and 53% plan to launch VoLTE roaming within a year of their domestic launches.
  • The failure of mobile operators to fully understand the changing technical requirements associated with the introduction of VoLTE and the commercial implications of those changes provides a significant opportunity for international wholesalers to grow their roaming businesses.
  • Operators want both the speed to market of S8HR and the quality of regional calls associated with LBO for outbound VoLTE roaming. They also want to preserve voice roaming revenues and grow data roaming revenues. Those goals are often put in jeopardy by the technical choices being made.
