  • Millicom Group’s mobile subscriptions declined 0.1% year-on-year, to 53.11 million at end-June 2017, excluding DRC and Senegal operations. The decline is attributed to SIM card disconnections in Tanzania in 2016 to meet regulatory requirements as well as the cleanup of inactive subscriptions in Colombia in 2H16. In addition, the group recorded negative net subscriber additions in 2Q17 in Rwanda and Chad due to competition.
  • Millicom’s total revenue down 2.5% year-on-year to $3.02bn in 1H17 despite a stable macroeconomic environment. Negative revenue growth is attributed to challenging market conditions in Africa, characterized by sharp price competition across all markets, and to an 18% new excise duty introduced in Chad in 1Q17 that resulted in a 9.5% decline in service revenue.
  • Mobile data segment report strong growth due to high demand from users. The group recorded 20.3% year-on-year growth in mobile data service revenue to $682m in 1H17, supported by 15.2% growth in active mobile data users to 20.3 million at end-2Q17.
