In March 2015, the most innovative service, from Ovum’s Telco Services Innovation Radar, was Telia’s M2M-in-a-box. The off-the-shelf M2M service is aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), an underserved niche segment for M2M services.


  • Telia’s new service is not strictly a global first. M2M module manufacturers have sold pay-as-you-go, out-of-the-box M2M kits for several years, targeted at small businesses who only require a handful of connected endpoints, initially at least. However, the fact that M2M-in-a-box is a newly launched service by a major telco group, in the Swedish market which serves a lot of M2M connections both nationally and internationally, makes it noteworthy.
