Australian government-owned fixed broadband network operator NBN Co has announced that it will be partnering with US technology giant Arris as it upgrades the HFC networks it has acquired from local carriers Telstra and Optus. This is the first time that a government-run, next-generation national broadband network (NGNBN) has incorporated HFC network assets into an open-access business model.


  • The new Australian government will incorporate HFC into its NBN, rather than replace it with FTTH. But upgrading and integrating the 25-year-old Telstra and Optus networks will not come without its challenges.
