Introduction

On August 3, 2017, Ofcom published its annual Communications Market Review, which studies developments in the telecoms, TV, radio, and postal services markets in the UK. It found that total communications revenues increased in real terms to £54.9bn ($77.4bn) in 2016.

Highlights

  • The lack of availability of FTTP and high wholesale prices has resulted in little support among UK ISPs for FTTP products. Without improved accessibility to FTTP, the majority of broadband providers are unsurprisingly continuing to choose slower products and offering them to their customers.

Features and Benefits

  • Assesses regulatory implications of Ofcom's Communications Market Review.
  • Compares the UK's broadband coverage progress against the EU's Digital Agenda for Europe targets.

Key questions answered

  • What preparations has the UK regulator made for the widespread deployment of 5G and IoT?
  • How does the UK's fixed infrastructure coverage compare to the rest of the EU?
