Revenues in the global service provider switching & routing (SPSR) market in 2Q16 were down 2.6% from the year-ago quarter. Annualized spending declined $106m from the previous quarter to $15.5bn, 0.7% less than they were a year ago.


  • Revenues versus 1Q16 grew in all regions; Asia-Pacific, with growth of 15.6%, was the only region to grow versus 2Q15. China grew 40.2% versus 1Q16.
  • Global spending on edge IP/MPLS equipment exceeded $9.3bn in the 2Q16 rolling 4-quarter (4Q) period, accounting for 60% of the total global SPSR market. The core IP/MPLS market grew 15.4% in 2Q16 and was up 6.6% versus the year-ago quarter, pushing annualized revenues past $3bn.
  • FiberHome climbed to eighth place, while Coriant fell. In the individual markets, on a single-quarter basis, Ciena tied Nokia for first place in access switching & routing, and Huawei moved up to second place in core routing and Juniper moved down to third.
