Global telco revenues declined 1% in 2Q16 versus 2Q15 (YoY), but things are looking up. Including ICPs and CNPs, total CP (communications provider) revenues grew 1% to $700bn in 2Q. Capex was flat but has bright spots: OTT/cloud providers (ICPs) spent $17bn in 2Q16, up 11% YoY.


  • Annualized CP revenues stopped falling in 2Q16, as fixed CSP and ICP growth improved; industry capex/revenues is stable at 14.7%.
  • Annualized CP capex was $416bn in 2Q16, up 2% YoY; ICP capex was up a much stronger 6%, driven by Facebook and Microsoft.
