Introduction

The last few weeks has seen the launch of Fossil and TAG Heuer smart watches, the first advanced wearable products to embed Intel chipset technology. These products showcase Intel’s wearables ecosystem but do not establish a solid base for it.

Highlights

  • Intel’s expansion into the wearables market will not be easy due to strong and established competition. On the chipset technology level, Intel is facing strong pressure from its major competitor, ARM.
  • On the design and assembly level, Intel is facing Qualcomm with its ARM-licensed Snapdragon-400 processors. Snapdragon dominates the smartwatch segment and can be found in almost any watch that runs Android Wear and Tizen Wear operating systems.
