Global Search Configuration

Introduction

At the Rich Communication Summit in Berlin in November 2015, delegates discussed challenges such as enabling interworking between RCS-based services on networks domestically and globally and the testing burden of enabling RCS natively in devices.

Highlights

  • Google’s acquisition of Jibe Mobile has the potential to significantly alter the RCS landscape. The acquisition underlines Google’s commitment to RCS and if, as expected, Google includes RCS in the next version of the Android OS, or as an update to Marshmallow, the addressable market for RCS will widen dramatically and quickly.
  • Telcos have sought to drive penetration of RCS by enabling it natively in devices. However, this is a time-consuming process, not possible on all device operating systems (notably, iOS). As a result, apps are also necessary.

Features and Benefits

  • Assesses the status of RCS-based services globally, providing an overview of services currently provided by Vodafone, Orange, Deutsche Telekom, and UK MVNO TalkTalk.
  • Analyzes the challenges that RCS still faces concerning native availability in devices and interworking.
  • Assesses to what extent Google's acquisition of Jibe Mobile can help address the challenges facing RCS.

Key questions answered

  • What is the status of RCS launches from operators that have launched services?
  • What impact will Google's acquisition of Jibe Mobile have on RCS?
  • How can RCS enriched calling help telcos provide a better user experience for their customers?
  • What are the key challenges that still remain concerning RCS, and how can these challenges be overcome?
  • What data can telcos that have launched RCS-based services share with the rest of the industry?
