New streaming TV STBs have recently been announced by major players and a raft of white-label manufacturers. Often these boxes promote “gaming” as a core application but can they compete with dedicated gaming devices?


  • Ovum believes gaming success for these boxes will be limited. They do not offer much that is new or original, are less convenient than playing on a tablet or smartphone, and require a lot of extra effort from developers.
