Economic prosperity and digital development are tightly interwoven in advanced and emerging economies alike. Rich countries normally present the highest adoption levels of the newest available technologies, but ICT infrastructure and technology adoption have an important role to play in the creation of wealth.

However, in emerging and maturing economies, such as the ones of Eurasian countries, ICT plays a primary role in unleashing true economic potential. Ovum ranked Eurasian countries on the basis of ICT development compared to the regional average, but also the relative performance of the most advanced international countries in key areas such as fixed and broadband connectivity. Unfortunately, for too many Eurasian countries, there is still much to be done to improve the underlying ICT infrastructure and to liberate economic prosperity from the shackles of oil dependency. Countries with inadequate ICT development are also particularly vulnerable to economic shockwaves, making ICT investment a key area to address for future economic growth.
