Ovum adds analysts and opens new offices to meet demand driven by world’s largest digital economy

San Francisco – October 20, 2016

Leading global data, market research and advisory firm Ovum has expanded its research team in North America to better serve the needs of this major market in the $4.8 trillion global digital economy. Ovum research analysts provide critical market intelligence to digital service providers and their technology partners, as well as enterprise CIOs enabling them to thrive in the digital economy.

Recent analyst changes at Ovum:


Ovum has moved its Director of Research and Analysis Technology position from London to New York and Nicole Engelbert has been promoted from Research Director for Industries to lead the entire technology team. Nicole is an Ovum veteran and drove the significant growth of its Industries team over the past 5 years. Her appointment to this senior leadership role is representative of Ovum’s intent to significantly grow its presence in the North America.

Paige Bartley, Senior Analyst, Information Management, joins Ovum’s San Francisco office. She is focused on market segments of particular importance to digital service providers: information management platforms, big data analytics, data lakes, legal and regulatory requirements, data security, and data privacy. Prior to Ovum, Paige was a Marketing Director at ZL Technologies, an industry leader in enterprise-class information governance software

Rishi Kaul has joined Ovum’s new San Francisco office, focused on consumer technology, the consumer <experience, and consumer analytics. He provides research and advisory services to technology and manufacturers of the connected device market, including smartphones, tablets, wearables, smart TVs, smart home, set-top boxes and media streamers. Prior to Ovum, Rishi was with The Berkeley Group in Berkeley, CA. Earlier in his career, Rishi was a congressional analyst at the U.S. House of Representatives.

Gilles Ubaghs, Principal Analyst, Payments, has relocated from Ovum’s Melbourne Australia office to Toronto to better address the FinTech market. Gilles is well known in the Payments industry, and his opinions on the future of mobile payments have been featured in media outlets such as CNBC, InformationWeek, Forbes, and CFO.com.

Ronan de Renesse
, Ovum’s lead analyst for Consumer Technology, has relocated from London to San Francisco to better serve Ovum’s clients in this rapidly growing, fast paced market. Ronan covers a range of topics including mobile devices adoption, underlying ecosystems, and the impact these new technologies have on consumers. Area of expertise includes handsets, smartphones, tablets, and wearables.

Ken Landoline has joined the San Francisco office in Ovum’s Customer Engagement team, where he analyzes and tracks contact center hardware/software technologies and associated applications for both on-premise and cloud-based solutions. Areas of coverage include IVR, customer self-service, workforce management, workforce optimization, data analytics, gamification, and contact center business process outsourcing. Ken spent more than 20 years in a variety of product and market management positions with several major global telecoms companies, including Siemens, Fujitsu, AT&T, and ITT.

Ken is also hosting two workshops on November 1 in San Francisco and Santa Clara: Planning for the arrival of IoT in Customer engagement.

Don Frey
has recently joined Ovum’s Service Provider Technology team, covering optical networking, switching, and routing. A key member of Ovum’s network core research group, Don brings a wealth of industry expertise, having spent 17 years with Fujitsu in the US and 9 years with Cincinnati Bell Telephone. A former Ovum client, Don is very familiar with Ovum’s quarterly market share analysis. He is based in North Carolina.

Marshall Lager has joined Ovum’s Customer Engagement team, focusing on customer experience and its management, through the meeting point of contact center, CRM and social media technologies. Marshall was most recently an independent consultant, and brings substantial industry experience advising clients on his areas of expertise and on-going research. Prior to joining the analyst community, Marshall was a senior editor and CRM Media. He is based in New York.
