Ovum’s Fixed Broadband Access Equipment Forecast 2017-2023: PON, xDSL, CMTS/CCAP report, an annual study of the global fixed broadband access equipment market, shows growth across all next-gen technologies. According to Ovum, by 2023, next-gen will account for 83% of global broadband access equipment revenues. Next-gen broadband access equipment is not only supporting the digital residential customer, but also supporting small businesses to large enterprises, as well as the future of mobile networks, such as 5G.
“The single-access network is on the horizon as service providers seek technologies that will consolidate residential, business, MBH (mobile backhaul) and MFH (mobile fronthaul) traffic. In addition, residential customers want unlimited bandwidth to support 4K content and multimedia, as well as multiplayer online gaming,” said Julie Kunstler, Principal Analyst on the Ovum’s Service Provider Technology team.
“Next-gen broadband access is not just about the transition to PON fiber technology. Cable operators are digitally transforming their access networks in order to offer services competitive with fiber-to-the-home.” said Jaimie Lenderman, Senior Analyst on the Ovum’s Service Provider Technology team.
