This report analyzes Ovum's Paying Music Subscribers and Revenue Forecast: 2017–22, discussing key findings such as music subscribers by year-end, averages for the forecast period, and changes in average revenue per subscriber.

  • The number of subscribers to on-demand music subscription services is set to double in the next five years. All regions will experience subscriber growth, but because much of the growth will happen in countries where the access charge is much lower than in developed markets, average revenue per subscriber globally will rise at a modest rate.
  • Asia-Pacific will overtake North America to become the biggest region for subscribers. By the end of 2022, Asia-Pacific will be home to 131.1 million subscribers, equivalent to 37.1% of the global total. North America will follow, with 120.1 million subscribers, and 34% of the global total. Europe will see its share of the global total fall.
