Ovum examined 12 of the biggest messaging apps and scored them in three different categories to reach an overall messaging app opportunity score representing Ovum's view of each platform’s music partnership potential.

  • Line is currently the most popular music service in Japan. It is part owned by Japan's biggest independent music company Avex. However, it lacks the global reach to make it a really exciting prospect.
  • Facebook Messenger has a deal with Spotify to allow music sharing via cover art. While it does not have a music service of its own, it does have the reach and monetization options to offer future partnership potential.
