Year-over-year growth (YoY) in the optical networking (ON) market continued in 3Q16, as the annualized market grew to $15.2bn. The global market grew YoY by 8.3%, despite the quarter-over-quarter (QoQ) weakness.


  • Share gains are tied to build cycles in China and to ICPs: Huawei, ZTE, FiberHome, Adva, and Nokia saw annualized share gains.
  • At 3%, access WDM posted the highest sequential growth, driven by CPRI fronthaul. SLTE grew by 2%. Aggregation fell at -22%, followed by backbone and metro WDM at -17.7% and -1.5%, respectively.
