Introduction

In Alation 5.1, a new capability, Alation TrustCheck, has been introduced. It provides real-time visual highlighting of SQL code, helping analysts understand how the data assets leveraged in their SQL code are governed by the data catalog.

Highlights

  • The Alation data catalog is, first and foremost, designed to increase the impact of analytic outcomes. The new TrustCheck feature is designed to help power users build better SQL queries by linking code directly to annotations and ratings in the data catalog.
  • The TrustCheck functionality provides real-time governance "guide rails" for SQL users, helping them build queries that leverage data assets that are up to date, endorsed, and relevant.
  • Alation's deep integrations with third-party data visualization and data consumption tools ensure that users in these environments do not have to toggle between products or interfaces to understand the quality or relevancy of their data.

Features and Benefits

  • Identifies the features of the TrustCheck offering, and evaluates how it helps with data governance efforts in the enterprise.
  • Assesses the current governance requirements of the self-service ecosystem, and identifies reasons why end-user burdens for governance due diligence are not feasible.
  • Identifies the historical gaps in governance for the SQL query-building process, and pinpoints how TrustCheck bridges the gap between the catalog and SQL code.
  • Evaluates Alation's existing third-party integrations and their impacts on data quality and analytic outcomes.
  • Assesses the role of the "power user" in the enterprise data governance effort, and identifies the Alation features that are designed to better incorporate them into governance workflows.

Key questions answered

  • What is the role of the modern data catalog, and why is the top-down, IT-controlled model of data governance no longer viable in the self-service era?
  • How does Alation's TrustCheck functionality help bridge the gap between governance efforts and SQL code, driving better analytic outcomes?
  • What are the user experience and interface for Alation's TrustCheck functionality like?
  • What are the productivity and analytic benefits that the typical TrustCheck user will experience?
  • How do Alation's third-party integrations improve enterprise-wide governance of data assets and facilitate self-service analytics?
