Introduction

International music trade body the IFPI has reported another year of positive trade sales. Total revenue increased at its fastest rate for 20 years, with streaming gains more than offsetting declines in sales of physical formats and downloads.

Highlights

  • Global recorded-music trade earnings increased 9.7% last year to $19.1bn, from $17.4bn in 2017, according to figures published by the IFPI. The rise marked the fourth consecutive year of growth since the IFPI began tracking the market in 1997.
