Introduction

In August and September 2014, Ovum carried out a large survey of 1,080 companies across Western Europe. This report focuses on the results that provide a good overview of the type of IaaS clouds in use today and in the next two years.

Highlights

  • There is an increasing variety of IaaS cloud options on the market. This is good for vendors because it makes it easier for them to differentiate. It is also good for users, because the more options they have, the more enterprises are likely to find the one that delivers the right balance of risks and benefits.
  • On the public cloud front, enterprises will similarly shift from completely public options to virtual private clouds (VPCs).

Features and Benefits

  • Understand which are the most widely adopted IaaS cloud types and how will this evolve in the next two years.
  • Understand that private IaaS cloud evolves from sharing and consolidation, to elastic and self-service consumption toward API-centric IT on a charge-back basis.

Key questions answered

  • What are the most widely adopted IaaS cloud types at the moment? How will this evolve in the next two years?
  • To what extent will private IaaS clouds become increasingly hosted and/or managed? To what extent will virtual private clouds overtake pure public clouds?
