Summary

In April 2019, Huawei launched the NetEngine 8000, a metro ultra-high-capacity router. The NetEngine 8000 allows communications service providers (CSPs) to build simplified metro networks with intelligent automation and segment routing v6 with IPv6 (SRv6). As bandwidth grows, Huawei new routers can provide a fully integrated router for cloud and 5G applications.

NetEngine 8000 is optimized for the cloud and 5G

Huawei's NetEngine 8000 will be available in 4Q19, helping carriers address bandwidth growth, telco cloud, and 5G applications. Huawei uses its latest Solar network processor for its fastest 8TB line card on the NetEngine 8000.

The NetEngine 8000 supports the new simplified protocol stack of SRv6. SRv6 relies on IPv6 to support millions of connections, required for device growth such as the Internet of Things (IoT). SRv6 can fully replace MPLS protocols, as well as provide a smooth evolution path from MPLS to SRv6. CSPs can use SRv6 to provide service-level agreement (SLA) assurance by tenant or application.

The NetEngine 8000 addresses new cloud and 5G applications by supporting full lifecycle automation and SRv6. Huawei's Network Cloud Engine (NCE) with path computation engine (PCE) will provide 50ms protection, traffic optimization, and second-level fault identification. The combination will simplify provisioning of new services for fixed broadband, enterprise, cloud, and 5G.

The NetEngine 8000 can scale metro applications as bandwidth grows with high-capacity cards, with up to 14.4TB per slot. It supports port density up to 36x400GbE or 72x100GbE per line card. The 400GbE ports will use QSFP-DD to deliver this density. Finally, the NetEngine 8000 has lowered the power consumption to less than 0.3 watts per gigabit and, with Huawei NCE, reduces the cost of supporting bandwidth growth and new applications.
