In our previous report “Six Steps to Digital Transformation,” we provided an overview of the key components of a transformation initiative, divided into six stages, and listed some of the key questions that an organization needs to ask at each stage. In this follow-on report, we take an in-depth look at the first three of these six steps: setting a roadmap, benchmarking current practices and IT investments, and investing first in those areas that have greater priority for the business.

  • The expectations of the chief information officer’s (CIO’s) role are rapidly changing from that of an enabler of efficiencies to a leader of transformation, and though the rewards for success are sweet, the path is rocky and many are unable to react quickly enough to the rapidly changing technology environment.
  • Constructing a thoroughly thought-out roadmap for transformation begins with identifying a purpose that will be the guiding principle for the transformation.
