Introduction

In 4Q16, Ovum commissioned a survey to examine the “new digital consumer,” surveying consumers in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. We found that 53% of respondents pay to access internet on their phones, but a significant number who do not pay rely instead on free Wi-Fi to fulfill their mobile data needs, bypassing operator data charges.
