Introduction

This report accompanies Ovum's Broadband Pricing Interactive Tracker and outlines the headline findings from Ovum’s 2018 update for 20 tier-1 countries.

Highlights

  • Mobile data buckets grow enormously. Around a quarter of the integrated monthly plans we tracked in 2018 included data caps in excess of 25GB.
  • Per-megabyte mobile prices nose-dive. Cheaper plans, more unlimited plans, and bigger data buckets contributed to lower per-megabyte prices for mobile monthly plans – a 40% decrease YoY in 2018.
  • Operators offer higher fixed broadband speeds, especially in bundles. The average fixed broadband downstream speed offered jumped 45% from 113Mbps in 2017 to 165Mbps in 2018 for broadband-only offers below 10Gbps.
