BMC Digital Enterprise Management is a set of IT solutions collated under a single narrative and theme to help enterprises realize greater value from a digitally empowered workforce. It can also help organizations to overcome the challenges presented by this. While this is certainly a positive move by BMC, it is important that organizations remember that any strategic shift of this nature must consider much more than only technology.

BMC plans to better support enterprises embarking on a digital transformation initiative

In the post-pc world, workforces have greater means and opportunities to interact digitally, whether with services, devices, or other people. Service touchpoints are proliferating, with new ways to interact have established as a result, and service providers now have greater means by which they can engage with customers. A digital enterprise should embrace this trend, but do so responsibly by balancing new demands with a need to mitigate risks. Technology is valuable piece of the puzzle because it can help empower and remove frictions in achieving this ideal. However, technology alone will not transform enterprises. Discussions about digital transformation must begin with an understanding of what an organization currently is and isn’t achieving, along with its goals for the future.

IT departments must engage in activities that help them understand the working practices of those they support, and must develop an understanding and awareness of what the modern workforce is demanding. It is important that areas of improvement are identified and considered as part of strategic planning. Only then should discussions be undertaken relating to the types of technologies that can help in delivering value through supporting new or reinvented working practices.

Through the introduction of its Digital Enterprise Management blueprint, BMC Software aims to support enterprises on their digital transformation journey. The vendor has defined some core disciplines that are supported by various solutions. This approach, along with the solutions, aims to help IT departments to optimize infrastructure, realize benefits from automation, improve analytics and reporting, and improve the user experience delivered by IT.
