Bharti's consolidated revenues stood at INR246.5m in 3Q16. Revenue growth slowed to 3.4% YoY in 3Q16 from 7.9% YoY in 2Q16. Revenue and ARPU growth from its largest market, India, declined as data revenues struggled to drive the mobility business.


  • Following the entry of RJio, integrated service plans with bundled voice, data, SMS, and Wi-Fi became a norm among the Indian operators. Bharti revised its MyPlan Infinity plan to offer unlimited local and national calls with bundled data and subscription to Bharti's OTT services.
  • Slowdown in Bharti's retail segment was offset by a strong performance in its B2B services segment. Revenue from Airtel Business and Tower Infrastructure services increased 47.1% and 7.6% YoY, respectively. Bharti is better placed to gain from the growing demand for telecom services in the enterprise segment.
  • Bharti's capex increased to INR162.7m for 9M16, from INR154.7m for 9M15. The operator has already committed an investment of INR600bn to upgrade its legacy networks. The program, called Project Leap, aims to deploy about 160,000 base stations across the country by end-2018. Subsequently, capex for mobile services increased 17.1% YoY in 9M16.
