Summary

The media asset management (MAM) market is witnessing a transformation as media enterprises' perceptions of the technology change. This is primarily due to a rise in opportunities for contextual repurposing of digital assets on multiple platforms. These new multi-platform distribution opportunities are paving the way for enterprises to increase collaboration with internal and third-party workgroups across geographies on a real-time basis. Key factors driving the deployment of MAM systems include enterprise demand for real-time collaboration between workgroups and end-to-end automation of the content workflow, from creation to distribution. Although the centralization of digital assets remains vital, the emergence of a highly fragmented multiscreen business environment is pushing enterprises to invest in MAM solutions to streamline the content creation and distribution workflow. In March 2015, Arvato Systems launched the EditMate suite, a plug-in tool for collaborative editing and project management that is tightly integrated with Adobe Premiere Pro CC and offers flexible, optional integration with Arvato Systems' VPMS MAM solution. Ovum believes that given the importance of nonlinear editing (NLE) systems in the file-based digital asset era, project management tools such as EditMate are essential to accelerate real-time workgroup collaboration.

Poor workgroup collaboration results in a 4% loss of add-on revenues

Real-time workgroup collaboration is vital for media enterprises in the multi-platform content distribution era as they shift beyond legacy content repositories to a unified MAM approach, i.e., tightly integrated media and production asset management modules. A unified MAM concept offers seamless content lifecycle management, from creation to distribution. A legacy enterprise MAM system should not be viewed only as a centralized media asset repository which sits at the center of content value chain, but should also be tightly integrated with critical production workflows (nonlinear and proxy-based editing, graphics, video encoding, and transcoding). Thus, the unified MAM system is a collaborative platform that facilitates the repurposing of contextual content on multiple devices on a real-time basis.

Real-time workgroup collaboration is fast becoming crucial within the content lifecycle workflow, given that the monetization of time-bound projects and a faster go-to-market strategy are essential for survival in the multiscreen market. A recent Ovum Global MAM market survey found that poor workgroup collaboration could result in add-on revenue loss of close to 4% due to slower time to market. Arvato Systems' EditMate plug-in fills an essential gap in the "must-have" unified MAM approach.
