Introduction

A description of the TV market in Argentina, covering players, strategies, main events, and forecasts.

Highlights

  • The previous government prioritized TV and promoted a range of populist initiatives: the creation of alternative media; free-to-air DTT; national content subsidies; and football available on the public TV channel.
  • Cablevision, the main media group and the top cable operator and fixed broadband ISP, ended a long legal dispute with the previous government that would have obliged it to divest some Clarin Group assets.
  • Telecom operators are preparing to roll out triple-play offers from 2018 according to a new regulatory regime in the main cities – Buenos Aires metropolitan area, Cordoba, and Rosario. However, DTH services will still remain banned from these bundles – being considered a standalone service. Authorization for other areas will be defined by ENACOM.
